Sr. Controls Engineer

Column Engineering is assisting a premier client in a search for a Sr.
Controls Engineer in Loves Park, IL.
This is a direct hire opportunity.
Responsibilities:
Prepare designs, specifications, analysis and recommendations for development of new products.
Responsible for the development of control architectures, algorithms, and requirements for high power energy conversion systems.
Provide controls engineering technical leadership.
Maintain records pertinent to each project in the form of time, sketches, drawings specifications, etc.
Render technical advice and assistance to other product development personnel as to designs, specifications, information sources and testing procedures.
Oversee the operations involved in the construction and testing of prototype products.
Keep well informed on new developments in the research and design engineering fields through contacts with educational institutions, professional societies and organizations, and through the use of texts, technical papers, journals, and periodicals.

Qualifications:
Master's degree (M.
S.
) in Engineering.
Advanced course work in areas relevant to product development is preferable.
Five years of design and development work experience required within areas of control engineering, power electronics, electric machines, power systems and embedded software development.
Design experience with control of power conversion systems including motor control algorithms (V/Hz, High Performance Vector Control, etc) Ability to read, write and verbally communicate in English along with the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.
,) in its most difficult phases.
Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
Extensive knowledge of MatLab/Simulink and Computer aided engineering design tools.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Knowledge of Model Based Design and embedded code generation.
Basic Knowledge of reading and programming C and C+
code.
Ability to make tests (unit, system, lab, field) Ability to work effectively in a high quality, deadline driven environment.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a team.
Global mindset and excellent communication skills to efficiently communicate across all levels in the organization.
Good time management and project management skills to organize and plan effectively in developing effective systems and processes.

Qualifications:
Able to contribute as a member of an organized project team of engineers.
Ability to provide leadership within functional area of control engineering Knowledge of High Performance AC motor drives Previous experience with power electronics control, various motor types, including Induction motor, Permanent Magnet motor, and Synchronous Reluctance motor machines.
Experience with advanced Pulse Width Modulation including different modulation types.
Experience with grid control (Active front end, microgrid converter), modelling electrical motors, power electronics and grid.
Experience with Model Based Development and embedded code generation using MathWorks tools.
Working knowledge of SimPowerSystems and Plecs simulation software.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
