Senior Materials Planner

Position Summary:
The Senior Material Planner is an expert in coordinating material requirements in support of production schedules for existing products, new launches, trials, technical changes, ingredient changes, and design changes. This individual is a change agent driving process improvement and efficiency using empirical data and service level expectations. The Senior Material Planner supports the initiatives of the Planning Supervisor as well as the entire business. Strong analytical skills are required to understand the intricacies of supply planning.
Essential Duties and Requirements include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Analyzes demand, production schedules, and inventory to support Planning Supervisor's strategic supply plan.

  • Prepares and analyzes inventory and capacity utilization plans to recommend optimal supply strategy.

  • Uses all available resources (production schedules, fiscal calendar, engineering project plans, etc.) to determine material requirements.

  • Schedules and prioritizes the delivery of ingredients, packaging materials, and non-inventory materials to mitigate stock outs and excess inventory.

  • Reviews forecasts, production plans, and actual demand to evaluate possible future constraints and determine possible solutions. Escalates to Planning Supervisor accordingly.

  • Analyzes material performance and efficiency data as well as monitors effectiveness and accuracy to drive supplier accountability. Proposes and implements corrective action for deficiencies.

  • Maintains Supplier Scorecards.

  • Utilizes a demonstrated knowledge of supply chain concepts, activities, and support functions.

  • Proposes process improvement by identification of opportunities, data analysis, and the design and execution of repeatable processes to improve material availability and overall efficiency.

  • Monitors and tracks metrics determined by Planning Supervisor to recommend and implement countermeasures to maintain inventory targets and minimize supply risks.

  • Creates and submits purchase orders to suppliers and monitors for on time delivery.

  • Liaises between the manufacturing facilities and the suppliers ensuring service level agreements are met or exceeded.

  • Provides supporting data to Planning Supervisor for all supplier bid processes and budgeting exercises.

  • Performs ad hoc data compilation and analysis functions.

  • Controls and stores documents relating to vendors, materials and vendor certification (i.e. kosher certificates, supplier guarantee letters, bio-terrorism registration confirmation, etc)

  • Evaluates and analyzes material costs, actual and compared to budget. Escalates variances accordingly to Planning Supervisor.

  • Controls and ensures vendors comply with Certificate of Analysis requirements.

  • Coordinates raw and packaging material specification registers and all documents related to material specifications and vendor certification.

Education and/or Experience
BA/BS degree or 5-7 years of equivalent work experience required. Extensive experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint is required. Experience with integrated ERP software.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of accounting practices, costs related to production, general commodity market, production processes, negotiating material prices, organizing and analyzing data. Ability to accurately analyze data and review work carefully, ability to multi-task numerous responsibilities at the same time, ability to work with others well, ability to communicate orally and in written form.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
